Visa and ImmigrationEthiopian visa application can be made at arrival or at diplomatic missions overseas. And nationals of the following countries can obtain visa upon arrival at a regular fee: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greed, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Republic Of Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States. Courier and Money TransfersAny amount of currency can be imported on condition that it is declared on arrival to any customs-authorized banks and hotels. Visitors may change back any surplus Ethiopian birr to foreign currency at the airport before departure. In big hotels, airport and travel agencies, payments can be made in US Dollar, Euro, Travellers cheque and credit cards. However, credit card payment is not used in small restaurants and shops. If you want to make money transfers, Western Union and Money Gram services have representatives in Addis Ababa. Hotel and MealsHotels vary from the luxurious Sheraton and Hilton in Addis to many other budget hotels. Best accommodations and all tourist resorts offer a choice in different parts of the country. All kinds of European and a variety of Asian cousins are always available in Addis Ababa local restaurants. Ethiopian traditional dish, Injera with spicy sauce or Wat and the famous local honey wine or Tej are available at any local restaurant and Hotels. Best Time to Travel Most attractions of the country can be visited without the slightest weather constraint on the planned itinerary. However, we recommend visiting the areas below at the specified seasons: South Omo Mid-December to mid-March, and July to August is the best season to travel as it is a dry season. November to mid December, and June, flexible itinerary recomended to cope with rain causing temporary road block like river, deep mud. September and October, and from mid March to May do not recommended due to heavy rainfall. Bale Mountains From late September to December highly recommended as the area is very green and clear scenic view. From December to March is the dry season and recommended. From June to September, the rainy season, not recommended. Semein Mountains October is recommended for the clear scenery and green vegetation. December to March is dry season. June to September is not recommended. |
